9 Best Fertility and IVF Clinics in Vienna

Fertility care in Vienna ranges from licensed IVF centres with their own laboratories to gynaecology practices that handle diagnosis, cycle monitoring and insemination and refer patients on for IVF. Only a few centres hold a contract with the Austrian IVF fund, which pays most of the cost of IVF for couples who meet its conditions.

This guide lists clinics whose own websites describe their treatments. For each one we note who leads the team, which procedures are done in-house, how donation, egg freezing and male fertility are handled, and which languages the website offers.

How this guide is ordered

We researched fertility and IVF clinics across Vienna and left out anyone who doesn't really specialise in it, has poor reviews or makes it hard to get in touch.

Some businesses buy featured placements to gain visibility.

How to choose Fertility and IVF Clinics in Vienna

  1. Check the IVF fund contractOnly contracted centres can bill the Austrian IVF fund, which covers 70 per cent of IVF costs for eligible couples. Ask whether you meet the age, insurance and medical conditions before you start.
  2. Ask what is done in-houseSome clinics run their own embryology, andrology and genetics laboratories, while smaller practices refer patients to an IVF centre for egg retrieval and transfer. Find out where each step takes place.
  3. Include the male partner earlyA semen analysis and, where needed, an andrology consultation belong in the first work-up. Clinics with a urologist or andrology unit can handle both partners in one place.
  4. Ask about treatments restricted in AustriaAustrian law limits some options, such as egg freezing without a medical reason. Several clinics plan these with partner centres abroad, so ask how costs, travel and follow-up are organised.

Frequently asked questions

How much does IVF cost in Vienna?

It varies. The price depends on the medication needed, whether ICSI, embryo freezing or genetic testing are added, how many cycles are required and whether the IVF fund covers part of the cost. Clinics usually give a written cost plan after the first consultation.

Who qualifies for the Austrian IVF fund?

Couples with a medical cause of infertility who are covered by Austrian social insurance or otherwise entitled. The woman must be under 40 and the male partner under 50 when treatment starts. The fund then pays 70 per cent of the costs for up to four attempts per desired pregnancy, and only at contracted centres.

What should I bring to the first consultation?

Previous test results, hormone values, ultrasound reports, any semen analysis and records of earlier treatments, plus your insurance card. Several clinics ask for these documents before the appointment so the first meeting can focus on a treatment plan.
