About ViennaList

Vienna, address by address

Vienna is a city where an address still means something. Ask a Viennese where to buy good bread or have a coat altered and you will usually hear a district number first, then a street, then a name.

The Innere Stadt draws the visitors, but daily life happens in Neubau, Josefstadt, Leopoldstadt, Ottakring and beyond: in the corner Konditorei, the pharmacy that knows your name, the tailor two doors from the tram stop.

What ViennaList does

ViennaList is a guide to those addresses. We publish focused rankings for the kinds of places people genuinely look for, from coffee houses and wine taverns to dentists, driving schools, accountants and vets, and we keep each one tied to this city rather than to some generic idea of the best. The city has its own vocabulary for all of this, and we use it.

How we work

Our editorial team researches each category across the whole of Vienna, not only inside the Ring. We look at the reputation a business has earned over time, make sure its details are current, and come back to every list on a regular cycle so that closures disappear and deserving newcomers get their chance.

We take particular care with the categories that matter most to daily life, such as doctors, schools and pharmacies, where a poor recommendation costs far more than a disappointing lunch.

Who it is for

Residents who have just moved flat and need a new GP. Newcomers working at the UN or one of the international firms who are still learning which Bezirk is which. Visitors who would like a Tafelspitz without queuing at the most famous name in town. And long-time Viennese who simply want a second opinion before they pick up the phone.

For businesses
